The concept, Gasworks Lane has been inspired by 2 key elements…

​

The first is organic and nature based; a cascading  green oasis  and the natural movement provided by this. The second, in contrast to this, is an industrial element. The context of the site, its original materiality, its history and personal story. These elements ultimately create a negotiation, a reclamation of the city by nature for people. By combining these elements instead of picking one over the other this urban oasis creates a more viable place in which to live.

Wellington Street Entrance: This space features an inviting entrance atmosphere consisting of bustling cafes, pop up stores, bike racks and also views of the rooftop garden instinctively enticing local transport users into the laneway.

Oasis // Ground Floor: A lush space that invigorates and soothes open to the public for day use with an alternative entrance to a gallery space featuring local artist. The entrance to the green oasis has been used to showcase talented artists within the Perth region.

Oasis // Rooftop: The roof top provides an urban escape, whilst embracing views of the city landscape. The luscious green-space features a fixed cinema screen, encouraging day and night activation with plenty to do. Solar panels have been applied within the design to ensure sustainability, also to be managed by the Gasworks strata company located on ground floor.

Industrial Jungle: This section of the laneway is dedicated to pop up retail spaces. It has been designed to showcase the best and most exciting independent start-up businesses where they can share space, skills and ideas. Gasworks lane will house the next generation of local retail outlets, and work spaces for local business and artists using shipping containers as a base modular system.
